Garage #1
Garage #1 is part of my Split Vision category. I took the photograph in Thongsbridge, West Yorkshire in April 2023.
This garage was demolished in 2024. Part of a group of 5 garages, it was typical of many that were put up along with new housing in the 1930s/40s. They are made of wood and corrugated iron and reflect a time of growing affluence signalled by private car ownership. I have photographed many of these garages across northern towns. In each case, the garage is on the cusp of collapse, as is the case here. I am attracted by their poignancy, being symbols of passing modern generations and changing times. They represent the deterioration of something once definite, strong, and leading edge.
Printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta.
Print image size: 44.5 x 25 cm
Natural white passe-partout 7cm surround on all sides,
Outer size matt black wood frame: 62.2 x 42.7 cm
The print is part of a limited edition of 25 and comes with signed certificate of authentication.
