Mosaic and Shutters falls into my Split Vision category. I took the photograph in Barnsley, West Yorkshire in April 2024.
The juxtaposition of the ‘keep out’ shutter and the mosaic design captured the essence of Barnsley town centre for me. It reflects the Beauty and the Beast tension present in urban environments today. It speaks of futility and endeavour. Even the shutter (the Beast) is a crafted object, and its gold patina reflects a sense of glory and audacity, albeit faded. At the same time, the mosaic (Beauty) is blemished.
